Speaker: Prof Dr Gerhard Gründer is a psychiatrist and psychotherapist. He is a professor at the University of Heidelberg and heads the Department of Molecular Neuroimaging at the Central Institute of Mental Health in Mannheim. He is also Medical Director and Chief Physician at the OVID Clinic Berlin.
Event details: Ever since the first antidepressants were introduced into psychiatric pharmacotherapy more than 60 years ago, we have known that discontinuing these substances can cause problems. Today, we know that the discontinuation of serotonergic antidepressants in particular can lead to characteristic withdrawal syndromes that can pose major challenges for patients and therapists. In addition, the type of discontinuation influences the long-term course of therapy.
